As I make my travel arrangements for this year’s reunion and induction celebration, I find myself reflecting over the last year’s event and feeling grateful for the opportunity to gather together once more. I recall the many weekend safety briefs that I received as a young Lance Corporal and in the same spirt of wanting the best health for my fellow All Marines, I would like to offer a few tips for those of us who are traveling to the upcoming event.
Set up your immune system for success. Consider starting vitamin d, vitamin c, and zinc supplement prior to your travel. Regular exercise and good quality sleep also go a long way in strengthening your immune response. As always, discuss adding any supplements to your daily regimen with your medical provider before taking them.
Don’t count on the vaccine alone. I have seen a rise in my practice this week in new Covid-19 infections in vaccinated individuals. Many practices are now following the IMASK+ protocol for early treatment and prevention. Ask your doctor about preventative and or treatment options available prior to possible exposures in hotels and airports.
Use common sense. Continue to wear a mask in closed- close contact areas, like airplanes or buses. Wash your hands frequently and try to avoid touching hand rails and other high touch surfaces in public areas. Keep hand sanitizer handy and avoid touching your eyes or eating with your hands during transit.
There are many other viruses currently circulating such as RSV, parainfluenza, and norovirus. Be mindful of all of our members who span many generations and have varied health risks. If you become ill, please self-isolate in order to prevent the spread of any illnesses.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you in August, and hope these tips will help get us all there healthy and ready to celebrate the history and legacy of the All Marine Boxing Team.
